Nite Lite Ministries holds monthly concerts at various churches throughout the north state in the hope that churches can come together in unity to demonstrate God's love.

It encourages people to bring friends, both churched and unchurched, enjoy some contemporary music and see how God works in the lives of His people.

The Unified band is made up of people from six different churches in the area. They hope through this ministry that others will see unity, humility, and service as they work together for a common goal.

AWANA returns to Red Bluff church

AWANA returned for the new school year to North Valley Baptist Church of Red Bluff, A Family Life Fellowship.

AWANA starts on Sept. 12, 345 David Ave., Red Bluff, according to Richard Kent, commander.

Each session runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and is designed for children ages 3 years through eighth grade.

There is no registration fee.

The evening includes three segments: handbook time, game time, and council time. Songs, testimonies and awards are given during the latter.

Three- and 4-year-olds Cubbies are directed by Beth Benner.

Sparks, third to fifth grade, are directed by Nancy Lamberson.

Other directors are Mira Sisco, Tom Moulton and Rebecca Wanker. Each group also has volunteer helpers.

AWANA is an acronym for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, taken from Second Timothy 2:15.

It is an international, non-denominational Bible-centered youth ministry to reach youth with the gospel of Christ, and train them to serve Him, according to Pastor David Lamberson.

Blood drive at Seventh Day Adventist Church

RED BLUFF - On Saturday Sept. 21, the Red Bluff Seventh Day Adventist Church will host a Blood Drive from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the church parking lot, 720 Jackson St.
Blood donations are used to treat burn victims, transplant and surgery patients, accident victims, patients with leukemia and more.
A donor must be in generally good health, free from cold symptoms for at least 48 hours; be at least 17 and weigh at least 110 pounds. There is no upper age limit.
Prospective donors must bring photo identification. All donors should eat and drink before donating. Refreshments and a token of appreciation will be given to all participants.

St. Peter's Episcopal to greet bishop

RED BLUFF - The Episcopal Church congregations of the north valley will greeting their new bishop, the Rt. Rev. Barry Beisner, and the Rev. Olga Barrera, deacon of the Diocese of Honduras, at 10 a.m. Sunday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 510 Jefferson St.
They will gather for the Holy Eucharist in which Bishop Beisner will preside and preach. After the service, they will share a meal together.
Bishop Beisner was consecrated in October 2006. He has been a priest of the Diocese of Northern California for more than 20 years, and for the last five years he has been the Canon to the Ordinary or assistant to the bishop.
The past bishop, Jerry Lamb, retired at the beginning of this year, and Beisner became the diocesan bishop.
The Rev. Olga Barrera is a transitional deacon from the Diocese of Honduras and, after two years, she will be ordained to the priesthood.
Only three other women have been ordained to the priesthood in her diocese.
The Rev. Barrera is bilingual, able to greet people in English and Spanish.
She will work with the church for six months while they discern what God wants for their ministry with Latinos.

Gideons to take First Christian pulpit

CORNING - First Christian Church of Corning welcomes George Keck of the Gideons to the pulpit this week. He will give a message on the work of the Gideons but also tell of a mission trip to Mexico that he took earlier this year.
There will also be an offering for the work of Gideons.
Following this week's service is the monthly fellowship potluck dinner, to which everyone is welcome.
The services are each week at 1421 Marin St. Worship with holy communion is at 11 a.m. On Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m., there is praise and prayer. The singing is accompanied by organist/pianist Donald Lund.
This week, the women begin their meetings again after having the summer off. They will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, and every second Thursday, for study, fellowship, and refreshments.
Sunday school will start again on Sept. 23.

Last Chance drama at Calvary Chapel

The Last Chance, a live multimedia drama, will be presented by the Calvary Chapel on Sunday, Aug. 26 through Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. Admission is free to the events.

Calvary Chapel Red Bluff is hosting Reality Ministries presentation of the original production, Last Chance. This production is a live multimedia dramatic play that weaves stage drama with original feature film segments into one cinematic event.

The audience is challenged over three presentation nights (Sunday through Tuesday) to consider where they will spend eternity based on the Biblical reality of life after death and beyond the grave.

Last Chance is performed using the church congregation as cast members, and includes professional lighting, sound, projectors, screens, visual effects, staging and sets.

Last Chance depicts the love of a grandfather for his family, and his faith and hope for their future on earth that will determine where they will spend eternity. The drama commences with the ending of this grandfather’s life and is followed by a series of vignettes depicting the lives of his children and grandchildren.

Don’t miss Last Chance, as this play asks the question “Where will you be when reality strikes?”

Teaching with authority

When Jesus finished that day, those who had listened recognized that He taught with authority. This contrasted with the way their educated men taught, who carefully followed the traditional interpretations.

"The result was that when Jesus had finished these words, the multitudes were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes." Matthew 7:28-29

Jesus taught what no one else had taught; He did not lean on the religious traditions in what He taught. he even used those traditions as a contrast to what He taught.

Yet Jesus did not set aside the Scriptures; He clearly made the point that the Scriptures will not pass away while the earth endures. but Jesus looked at the Scriptures in a very different way than their teachers had approached them. Their teachers looked at Scriptures as something to build around; the Jewish traditions were built to keep men from breaking the Law. They stated that they were building a fence around the law; they assumed that they could keep the Law if they worked at it diligently.

But Jesus sought to fulfill the Law and the Prophets, not just keep a distance from them. Jesus saw that the Law and the Prophets were meant to build something; they were not just rules. Jesus taught what the Scriptures were meant to accomplish not what men had built around them.

Kincaids to speak at Abundant Life

The Rev. and Mrs. Melvin Kincaid, missionaries to Latin America, will be ministering at Abundant Life Fellowship at both the 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. services Sunday.
They have worked in Latin American countries for more than 40 years, have established more than 200 churches and have a bible school in Reynosa, Mexico. They will be showing pictures at the evening service.

Pat Hartung, who is with Wycliffe Translators, will share in these services. She has spent most of her life in the Philippines and, along with co-workers, has just completed translating the New Testament into a Philippine dialect. She is working on a dictionary and concordance now completing almost 35 years of labor on these projects.

The public has been invited to these services. Abundant Life Fellowship is located at 21080 Luther Road.

MINERAL — The Senior Adult Annual Getaway for those over 55 will be held at the Mount Lassen Camp on Highway 36E. The dates are Aug. 21-25.
Speakers for the camp will be Glen Cole and Del Tarr. Cole is the former district superintendent for the Northern California Assemblies of God, and Tarr is the former president of the California Theological Seminary. Cabin and RV spaces are available. Meals will be served in the camp-dining hall.

Teaching for a purpose

Jesus was making disciples as He sat on the mountain teaching.

The accounts in Matthew, Mark, and Luke indicate that Jesus called certain fishermen, Peter and Andrew, and James and John, to follow Him before the Sermon on the Mount. These men would have been there listening. But others were there as well. The account in Matthew records the Sermon on the Mount in great detail; the accounts in Mark and Luke do not. The complete structure of the discourse indicates that Matthew was listening intently. But the accounts in Matthew, Mark, and Luke indicate that Matthew himself was called later, as he sat at his tax office in the city. Matthew had sat on the mountain listening to Jesus; this tax collector remembered details, every detail.

(Zaccheus, also a tax collector, also was good at remembering details. In Luke 19 he told Jesus he would repay four-fold everything he had taken by fraud.)

When Jesus passed by Matthew sitting at his table collecting taxes, Matthew knew what this Man taught. When Jesus said "Follow Me" Matthew was ready to leave his place in life, and follow Jesus. Jesus had been making a disciple of Matthew as He taught on the mountain.

Teaching is for a purpose. It is to bring inward change.

"But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith." 1 Timothy 1:5

Teaching needs to address the inward; otherwise discipleship becomes a school of acting. Discipleship should give a heart that has been cleansed from sin, an internal conscience that is useful in doing what is good and a faith that is not the result of role-playing. Love is to come from a changed person, not a well-acted part.

North Valley Baptist celebrates 40th anniversary

The North Valley Baptist Church of Red Bluff is holding a 40th anniversary celebration on Aug. 3-5 at the church, 345 David Ave.
The Pastor is David Lamberson.
The theme of the event is “Remember, Renew, Revive,” according to Scott Camp, chairman. Friday’s events are for church family members and attendees.
Saturday is planned as a Neighborhood Family Fair, with the public invited to enjoy hot dogs, games and youth events. There will be a tour of the new activity building under construction with viewers being able to make suggestions as to how the building may be used to aid the community. There will be information booths, a Youth Rally and a number of special activities for people of all ages.
This event will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Neighbors, VBS and AWANA parents, members of local churches and the NVBC church family are invited to attend. The church sponsors a Good News Club and those families are also urged to attend. Music, games, face painting and a Dunk Tank (for the Pastor and Deacons) will be included.
On Sunday a Family Homecoming is planned with church services, and the return of old members and pastors as honored guests. Also being honored are Charter Member Dot Stubbs and longtime members. The day will start at 9:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast. Worship service starts at 10:50 a.m.

Well?

You know how it is. Sometimes, when you’re reading along in the bible, a verse will suddenly develop more significance? I recently came across one of those.
“Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will not {your countenance} be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it." Genesis 4:6&7.

After reading that verse, I got to wondering what exactly the word, “Well” meant.
When I looked it up and began reading its meaning, I was amazed. Even though it’s such a tiny little word, it is packed full of attributes.

Teaching with content

Discipleship is based on content; discipleship is more than loyalty to a leader. The teacher needs to have something significant to teach; he needs to have something to give.

Jesus had something to say. His teaching was challenging. He did not teach what they already knew; nor did He teach what was too abstract to be useful. Jesus taught about life; He gave light for what was real to those who listened. He taught about real things. If He were teaching us today, He might have used examples of Western materialism, the hypocrisy of our religious culture, and the addictions of our world. He would address us, challenging us to make real changes.
Jesus challenged those who listened to make changes in their lives. he preached that the kingdom of God is near; when He taught He taught how to find it. Those who listened heard about reality; what He taught applied.

Jesus used contrast often, taking examples from their culture. He could make what He taught useful because He could clearly state what was right and what was wrong.

Teaching should be challenging to understand, have significant application, and be illustrated with clear examples. Teaching should use language and details that are understandable, but the content should be difficult. Teaching should communicate change, not creed.

North Valley Baptist Church to hold VBS

North Valley Baptist Church of Red Bluff is holding Vacation Bible School July 23-July 27 from 9 a.m. to noon at the church, 345 David Ave., Red Bluff. It is for children grades K-6.
In charge of the event and planning is Cindy Brown, Director of Child Evangelism of Butte-Tehama-Glenn counties. Also participating will be teens from the group Christian Youth in Action, Brown said.
Handling refreshments will be Bev Mills and Elaine Hogg of NVBC. Jeanne Fletcher and Becky Wagner will be providing crafts for different age groups. “Even children who have attended a VBS elsewhere may enjoy adding this program to their summer,” said Fletcher, chairman of the program for NVBC, “The professionalism of Ms. Brown really adds to the event.”
This year’s theme will be “King of the Jungle.” Knowing Christ and Who is the King? Are subtitles to the program. There will be lessons, singing, prizes and refreshments. On Friday evening there will be a closing program and demonstration of what has been learned and accomplished. All are welcome to attend. There is no fee. Local artists will perform music featuring southern, gospel, country, bluegrass, Christian, delta blues, and contemporary on Saturday sponsored by the Cottonwood Assembly of God Church, 20404 Gas Point Road.

Presbyterians help with Ethiopian needs

Six Presbyterian churches in the Sacramento Presbytery, including the Red Bluff Presbyterian Church, have joined together to try to meet the stated needs of a small village (Maasha) and area in Ethiopia. The Shekkacho people live in a wetter area of the country but they have a problem with good drinking water.

One of the projects that the churches fund is the cost of building water collection points that enable the villages to have clear, unpolluted water. Before this project, everyone washed, cleaned dishes, and drank the polluted water. This water flowed pure out of the mountains. Ethiopia, which has English as its official language, tests all students going into 9th grade and those going to college.

A student has to pass this test to go on in school. It is a very difficult test and those in the villages don't have much exposure to English. For two years now these groups of churches have had an English Project in which teachers go and teach English in the local high school for one month in the summer. Last year only two teachers went.

This summer, Ann Wittorff Ferry, one of our very capable teachers in Tehama County, answered the challenge to volunteer. Five are going as teachers. They are spending from July 3-Aug. 8 on this mission.

The Red Bluff Presbyterian Church is paying for Ferry's expenses through the Rose Etta Todd Mission Fund that was established three summers ago in memory of Rose Etta Todd. Ferry will be teaching a morning and afternoon session of fifty students each for almost a month.

The students there are so anxious to learn that they complain if the breaks are any longer than announced.

These projects have been requested by the Ethiopian presbytery in the area. A fact that very few people know is that there are more Presbyterians in Ethiopia than there are in the U.S.A.

VBS at Abundant Life Fellowship starts Monday

Abundant Life Fellowship, 21080 Luther Road, will be having a daily vacation Bible School from July 16-20, 9 a.m. to noon. The theme is “WaterWorks!Park.”
Each day kids will participate in “Splash-tacular” Bible memory and music, “Raging River” games, “Bible Bay” Bible story dramas, “Snow Mountain” activities, crafts, a souvenir shop plus “Coconut Island” puppet time and the “Snack Shack!”
We invite children from 6 to 12 to join the thrills and spills of our Vacation Bible School.

Ecuadorian dinner and silent auction scheduled

The Red Bluff Vineyard Christian Fellowship, 738 Walnut St, will be hosting an Ecuadorian dinner and silent auction on Sunday, from 5-8 p.m., in their cafe.

This event is to provide support to the orphanage, For His Children, Para Sus Ninos, in Quito, Ecuador.

The dinner will feature a four course meal with examples of traditional Ecuadorian fare. The menu will be a selection of traditional favorite dishes brought back from past mission team members.

This will be the fourth time the church has sponsored the dinner and auction, and the event grows in popularity each year. The silent auction has included in the past many hand crafted items such as paintings by well-known local artists, quilts, weekend getaways, and baskets donated by many local merchants. The auction has been competitive and fun.

The Red Bluff Vineyard has been committed to For His Children for eight years. FHC was started by Clark and Melinda Vaughn, who moved to Quito, Ecuador, from Mammoth Lakes in 1990.

They currently have 45-50 children under their care, most of them infants and toddlers. Approximately one third of the children at FHC have moderate to severe special needs.

The missionary team from the Vineyard share the belief with FHC that we are to "love His children," and support children who have suffered the greatest of all traumas, separation from family.

While in Ecuador members of the team provide medical care, construction projects, love and moral support to the staff and children, and minister to the spiritual needs of the Vaughns as well as local residents.

Many of the past team members have returned home having experienced life changing events while at FHC.

The church has extended an invitation to everyone in the community to join us and be a part of this experience.Come to the dinner, participate in the auction, visit with team members, view photos, and enjoy the fun while supporting this great cause.

This event grows each year and seating is limited. Dinner tickets are $15 for adults and $7.50 for children. Tickets can be purchased at the Vineyard or by calling 527-2449.

Each team member pays for their own travel and expenses, therefore all the proceeds from this event go directly to fund work projects at FHC.

Teaching in relationship

Discipleship is based on relationship, a mutual relationship of significance. The teacher is to be recognizably worth following; the disciples are to be of value to the teacher.

Jesus came to a highly religious society, with firmly established institutions and recognized systems of instruction. Yet, some followed Jesus as he preached because He had a life that no one else had. He spoke with an authority that others did not have; He had power that others did not have. But more than this, Jesus dealt with the individual; each person was significant to Him. Each person He healed, He healed face to face. Those who followed Him were following Someone who recognizably thought they were significant. Those who teach need to value the individuals they are teaching.

Guarding Our Gates

Our homes are important. They should be sanctuaries and havens from the rest of the world. It doesn’t matter what size they are or what kind of decor they have, it is the atmosphere which identifies it as a sanctuary or a sanatorium. Both are places that protect from the outside world, the difference being is that life dwells in the sanctuary while death inhabits the sanatorium.

What are the steps that we can take to ensure that the atmosphere of our homes brings life to those who enter? It is the presence of God that brings life, Ezekiel 47:9, and we know that God inhabits the praise of His people, Psalm 22:3, but what inhibits His inhabiting?

In Psalm 101, God tells us that He will come to us when we ‘give heed to the blameless way’. What is the blameless way? He tells us that it is walking within our homes in the integrity of our hearts, (verse 2).

So what does that mean in a practical sense? (Or, how do we know we are?) The next several verses give us some clues to know that we are walking in integrity.

Teaching through example

Discipleship is based on the character of the teacher; disciples are following the teacher. Those who followed Jesus up the mountain were following the Man. A teacher is more than one who verbalizes information; a teacher is an example of what he teaches. A disciple will become like his teacher; he cannot become more.

"A disciple is not above his teacher nor a slave above his master. It is enough for the disciple that he becomes as his teacher, and the slave as his master..." Matthew 10:25

This is a part of discipleship. Christianity is based on discipleship, not information. Disciples are to make disciples, disciples of themselves.

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 38:19-20

Only disciples can teach other to keep all that Jesus commanded; because only disciples keep His commandments themselves. Anyone can communicate information, but only a disciple can make disciples.

Teachers are to be personally an example of functional Christianity.

"Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we shall incur a stricter judgment. For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well." Jams 3:1-2

Those who teach are to be mature, complete examples of Christian growth. God will discipline teachers more strictly for this purpose.

"He Leadeth me in the Paths of righteousness for His Name's Sake"

“The Lord is my Shepherd—I shall not want-He maketh Me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters-He restoreth my soul-He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness of His Name's sake”

The greatest single safeguard which a shepherd has in handling his flock is to keep them on the move. That is to say, they dare not be left on the same ground too long. They must be shifted from pasture to pasture periodically. This prevents over-grazing of forage. It also avoids the rutting of trails and erosion of land from over-use. It forestalls the reinfestation of the sheep with internal parasites or disease, since the sheep move off the infested ground before these organisms complete their life cycles.

God wants us all to move on with Him.He wants us to walk with Him. He wants it not only for our welfare but for the benefit of others as well as His own dear reputation.

Perhaps there are those who think He expects too much of us. Maybe they feel the demands are too drastic. Some may even consider His call impossible to carry out. It would be if we had to depend on self-determination of self-discipline to succeed.

But if we are in earnest about wanting to do His will, and to be led, he makes this possible by His own gracious Spirit who is given to those who obey (Acts 5:32). For it is He who works in us both to will and to do of His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13)

RBUHS to hold baccalaureate service

The community is invited to share in a Baccalaureate Service for the Graduating Class of 2007 of the Red Bluff Union High School on Sunday, June 3, at 7 p.m.

This special time of worship will be held in the Performing Arts Center on the High School campus.

The annual Baccalaureate Service is hosted by the Red Bluff Ministerial Association and is planned with a committee of graduating seniors. The following senior students served on this year¹s committee: Tim Bohrer, Leilania Brochu, Tara Duggins, Steven Ferguson, Tim Perrell, Jenneca Johnson, Morgan McFadyen, and Brock Van Dyke. Mr. Kevin Penner is the high school staff advisor and Pastor Mark Franklin represents the Ministerial Association.

This time of worship will be led by a student group of musicians: Bohrer will play guitar; Laurel Siemens will play fiddle. They will be joined by vocalists Nella Schnase and Brock VanDyke.

Pastor Mike Schnase of First Baptist Church, Pastor John Bohrer of Antelope Home Fellowship, and Pastor Gil DiLaO of Calvary Chapel will offer words of encouragement and challenge to the graduates. Jon Jones, R.B.H.S. teacher of many of the graduates, will offer his reflections of the class from the last four years.

Students from the planning committee will participate in the reading of scripture passages and sharing of personal testimonies.

The Baccalaureate Service is a special time of worship and spiritual challenge to the graduating seniors.
The Red Bluff Ministerial asociation recognizes the importance of this traditional service and appreciates the opportunity to sponsor this ministry to the local students.

Making Disciples, cont.

"And when He saw the multitudes, he went up on the mountain; and after he sat don, His disciples came to Him. and opening His mouth He began to teach them saying..." Matthew 5:1-2

Jesus climbed mountain in the sight of everyone; but only His disciples followed. The crowd did not climb the mountain; they stayed below. When Jesus sat down to teach, only those who had climbed the mountain were listening. He taught disciples.

This is a part of discipleship. Teach those who are willing to follow, separately from those who are not ready to put out an effort. Teach disciples, those who want to learn. The Greek work translated "teach" here could be more literally rendered "cause to learn". (We get our word "didactic" from this word.) The way Jesus taught illustrates how a teacher "causes to learn". Learning occurs best when everyone listening wants to learn.

Corning Women's group to hold sale

The Christian Women's Fellowship of Corning First Christian Church will be holding their annual Rummage at 1421 Marin Street, on Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., both days.

The sale will be held in the social hall at the rear of the church with plenty of parking in the school parking lot adjacent to the church. Proceeds support the many missionary projects of the group, both locally and world-wide.

There is an interesting story in 2 Kings 13.
It’s about Jehoash, king of Israel. He hears that Elisha is sick, and goes to visit him. Before he leaves, Elisha gives the king a couple of strange commands. One of them is to strike the ground with his arrows. So the king grabs his arrows and strikes the ground three times. The prophet then gets mad and tells him that he will only have 3 victories against the Arameans and will not be able to completely defeat them, (which is fulfilled in verse 25).

Too bad! Thoses Arameans were horrible people, if King Jehoash had only known, he would have struck with those arrows ‘till he dug a hole to China, (or whatever country is on the other side of the world from Israel).

St. Peter's to hold Pentecost dinner

On Sunday, May 27, St. Peter's Episcopal Church will host a potluck Pentecost Dinner at its Parish Hall on Elm Street between Jefferson and Washington Streets in downtown Red Bluff.

A discussion about the challenges to the Anglican Communion and the Episcopal Church will be held.

Sterling to speak at Corning's First Christian

First Christian Church of Corning at 1421 Marin St. welcomes as their guest speaker this week, John Sterling.

Mr. Sterling is a businessman and a member of the Redding Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Mr. Sterling has filled the pulpit on other occasions and always had a good message for all.

Also, following this week's service is our monthly fellowship potluck dinner to which everyone is welcome.

First Christian Church worship is at 11 a.m. and Sunday School for all ages, beginning at 3 years of age, at 10 a.m.

There is plenty of parking in the school parking lot adjacent to the church.

Marriage and family Bible seminar

A marriage and family Bible seminar sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church will be held at 720 South Jackson St. Red Bluff.
This relationship seminar is presented as a community service for Christians and non-Christians alike.

Especially designed for busy people, the public has been invited to come.
Morning session begins at 10:45 a.m., followed by a free vegetarian luncheon.
Afternoon session continues at 1:30 p.m.

The seminar is free. Those who wish may give a freewill offering to help with expenses. The Bible will be the textbook.
Attendees will also be given study material at each session to aid you in your quest for a relational happiness.

Creation versus evolution series set at Cavalry

Dr. Mace Baker will discuss creation versus textbook evolution at a series at Cavalry Chapel Red Bluff on Sunday.

Baker will review state adopted textbooks from junior high, high school and college classes and discuss transitional forms and evidence, or lack of evidence, for them. The first session will be presented at 9 a.m. and at 11 a.m. Sunday and the second session will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Baker has taught for over 20 years in the public school system. He earned his B.A. from Biola University, and his Ph.D. from Pacific International University.

He has engaged in creation research for more than 20 years and conducts seminars in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, England, Ireland, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, Russia and the Philippines.

Baker has participated in excavations in Texas and has conducted field research on dinosaur track sites in Utah.

Calvary Chapel Red Bluff is at 12375 Paskenta Road.

Community Baptist slates taco feed

RED BLUFF - Community Baptist will hold a taco feed fundraiser dinner Saturday, May 19 to raise money for a mission trip to Mexico.

The dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the church at 598 Round-Up Avenue.

Dinner tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under and includes drinks and dessert.

A raffle will also be held during the evening.

Coming to Abundant Life Fellowship

Reverent Jacques Vernaud, missionary to the Republic of Congo, will be visiting Abundant Life Fellowship Church on Sunday May 13.

Rev. Vernaud and his wife, Johanna, have been missionaries for more than 40 years. In 1984, they felt led to start a church in the French-speaking area in the city of Kinshasa. They were able to purchase a restaurant building and started with a congregation of 25.

Today their church has grown to more than 8,000 in attendance in multiple services. Rev. Vernaud will be at Abundant Life Fellowship on Sunday, May 13, at both the 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. services. Abundant Life Fellowship is located at 21080 Luther Rd.

"He Restoreth My Soul" (part 3)

“The Lord is my Shepherd—I shall not want-He maketh Me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters.”

We have to be realistic about the life of the child of God and face facts as they really are. Most of us, though we belong to Christ and desire to be under His control and endeavor to allow ourselves to be led by Him, do on some occasions find ourselves cast down.

If I wish to go on walking with God and not be forever cast down, this is an aspect of my life which He must deal with drastically.
Whenever I found that a sheep was being cast down because that too long and heavy a fleece, I soon took swift steps to remedy the situation.

The toughness it takes to face life and the formidable reverses which it brings to us can come only through the discipline of endurance and hardship.

We may rest assured that He will never expect us or ask us to face more than we can stand. He is the Good Shepherd, we can rest assured that he know what He is doing.

This in and of itself should be sufficient to continually refresh and restore my soul.

"He Restoreth My Soul" (part 2)

“The Lord is my Shepherd—I shall not want-He maketh Me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters.”

One of the great revelations of the heart of God given to us by Christ is that of Himself as our Shepherd. He has the same identical sensations of anxiety, concern, and compassion for cast men and women as I had for cast sheep.
It discloses the depth of His understanding of undone people to whom He came eagerly and quickly, ready to help, to save, to restore.

When I read the life story of Jesus Christ and examine carefully His conduct in coping with human need, I see Him again and again as the Good Shepherd picking up "cast" sheep. The tenderness, the love, the patience that He used to restore Peter's soul after the terrible tragedy of his temptations is a classic picture of the Christ coming to restore on of His own.

And so He comes quietly, gently, reassuringly to me not matter when or where or how I may be cast down.

In Psalm 56:13, we are given an accurate commentary on this aspect of the Christian's life in these words," ...thou hast delivered my soul form death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?"
